it's cotton picking. It's an old saying from when people would pick cotton for clothes and stuff (don't know how it came up in saying like this though =\) Who picks collars?

Is the expression “wait just a collar picking minute or wait just a cotton picking minute”?
I always thought it was collar picking but my bf swears it's cotton picking…So, who's right?
